GLOBAL ROAD SAFETY REPORT
Packaging design for Peruvian Chocolatier, Death by Xoko.
KEY FINDINGS 2018
Road traffic injuries are now the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5–29 years.
More than half of all road traffic deaths are among vulnerable road users: pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists
93% of the world's fatalities on the roads occur in low- and middle-income countries, even though these countries have approximately 60% of the world's vehicles.
Road traffic crashes cost most countries 3% of their gross domestic product.
ada’s viewpoint
The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), within the Safe System approach to road safety, has the potential to drastically reduce mobility fatalities and injuries required to move us towards the zero target, globally, by 2050.
Yet Self-Driving Systems (SDS) alone are not the solution if they only address 7% of the 1.3 million global fatalities each year. It’s clear that the deployment of globally scalable, low-cost AI solutions are essential to address the road fatalities occurring in low and middle-income countries.
It’s for this reason that; ADA is committed to accelerating the development and adoption of trusted human-centric artificial intelligence, whilst ensuring it’s safe, ethical and equitable deployment on our global roads.
In fact it’s only through the holistic application of AI, within the Safe System approach, that Mission Zero 2050 can be achieved. As an open alliance ADA collaborates with governments, NGOs, industry, academia, standards bodies and the public. Reach out to join ADA on the journey to safer mobility.
