UNITED NATIONS SDGs

ADA is committed to the United Nations Global Goals

Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
3.6. By 2020, halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents.

Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries
93% of the world's fatalities on the roads occur in low- and middle-income countries, even though these countries have approximately 60% of the world's vehicles.

Goal 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
11.2. By 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons.
ADA’s Viewpoint
The target to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic ‘accident’ by 2020 has been missed.
The University of Oxford and the Global Change Data Lab’s SDG-Tracker indicates global fatalities remain stable between 1.24-1.3 million per year.
These global statistics down further by Our World In Data into country, Socio-Demographic-Index (SDI) and differentiated by motor vehicle (drivers and passengers), motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians.
The 2018 WHO Global Status Report on Road Safety states that; ‘Between 2013 and 2016, no reductions in the number of road traffic deaths were observed in any low-income country, while some reductions were observed in 48 middle- and high-income countries.’
While also recognising that ‘Accelerating the rate of this progress and bringing to scale the benefits of effective legislation, safer vehicles, safer roads, and increasing access to quality emergency care is the main challenge moving forward.’
ADA's mission to ensure Artificial Intelligence innovations eliminate this global epidemic by 2050 can only be achieved collaboratively with a multi-stakeholder, multi-disciplinary approach.
That’s why we are calling upon governments, NGOs, industry, academia, standards bodies to join ADA on the journey to safer mobility.
